New stuff about the kids:
Kaylee is learning at a fast pace. Right in time for getting
ready for kindergarten. I am proud to say that she has (with a small amount of
coaching – I swear! J)
read her first book. It was “inside ouside upsidedown” – now she HAS read it a
lot of time and was able to remember a lot but I could tell that she was
reading it and using some knowledge of sight words she knows (like ‘the’) to link the phrases
together. Also she has been trying to
memorize addition. She ask ‘Mom what’s 1 + 1 =2?” (and on and on) Then she also
write down numbers with plus signs and ends up with a sheet of paper filled
with little equations – for which she knows none of the results! Ha! So cute!
She also has been spending a lot of time working on her drawing skills. She
draws in way more detail. She draws our whole family portrait. J She loves to use
curley cues everywhere and embellishes her own name with them (sometimes) when
signing her work. She still loves purple and pink but uses all the colors now
to make her fairy wings be rainbowy ! (She
is still ‘all girl’) She takes her little pre-K placemat and traces the
alphabet and numbers just for fun. She is going to be a good student I can just
tell already! J
So studious already. I’m not looking forward to the battle that I hope won’t
ensue (but assume will) when we have to do homework together. It’s just good to
see she’s going to be self-motivated and seek out a lot o this on her own. She
will guide us as parents to show her the next thing – and that’s great to
learn. She has been having fun as well bird-tracking the birds at the bird
feeder with Eric. Eric has taught them all their names and it’s so cute for her
to identify them, “look everybody a scarlet tanager!”
Levi is still ‘all boy’. When playing at the park he met a
girl he liked and started to smile at her and try to play. Then he looks at me and says, “mom , go somewhere
else!” OMG – I didn’t think it’d be so soon that my boy would want me to give
he and a girl some privacy ! my goodness!
He has been calling things out incorrectly by their color. At least we
know he wants to know which ones which now, and he knows there’s different
types. Getting them straight will be another story. He also has been curious
about shapes and asking which ones are which. He now listens very intently
during storytime – he no longer takes the books away frequency and/or throws
them across the room! He enjoys story-time. He has a couple of favorites he
loves to read (way too much for my liking) J
He loves to drive his trucks/cars around the house. He loves his balls still.
He is starting to do games on the i-pad and can put numbers 1-5 in their
correct order, put a simple puzzle together, and identify large/small
items. He is making his way towards
being preschool ready! Although due to his birthday being in Sept, it’s going
to take quite a while (more than I would like) for him to get to the age to
attend preschool. We cannot take him to the 3 year old program because our
Provider won’t be able to do that (it’s a different day than the rest of the
group), and my work schedule doesn’t allow me to do it, sadly.
When the Smiths were here we had fun with them – we went on
the train/LRT to the big mall! It was fun for us all the kids got to go on
rides. We went out for a nice Thai meal for Barb’s birthday. We also had fun at
Cindy’s on Mother’s day – the kids played in the yard and got soaking wet! Thank goodness my sister is doing better after
that preterm labor scare that happened that weekend – we are all relieved that
things seem to have settled down on that front. It was a whirlwind / quick trip
– it was fun to catch up! Thanks for coming to visit!
J
Dennis took some very beautiful photos of the kids while he
was here. Hopefully I will be organized enough to get them up/posted here soon.
Esp. the ones of Kaylee turned out amazing!
This last weekend we had a bought of illness at our house.
It was not fun. On Saturday Kaylee woke up throwing up, lasted for 3-4 hours
then she was ready for the BRATY diet rest of the day and came out of it. Then
the exact thing happened with Levi on Monday (nice holiday, huh?) though when
you are dealing with a 2 ½ year old it means it’s all a lot more traumatic
(more crying/less able to aim at toilet/bucket and loads of additional
laundry). So glad they got over it both of them very quickly! Yes! I cleaned
the house after that – all the countertops and all the floors. So that it
wouldn’t spread or reappear (just in case). Wish us luck on that front! We had
taken them earlier in the week to ChuckECheese on a rainy day – maybe that’s
where they caught that nasty bug – wouldn’t be surprised in the least…You know
how it is – you take your kids out to do fun stuff out and about, feeling like
a fun good parent only to end up later in the week with a sick little one. Oh
well, have to take those chances right!?
My parents are in Hawaii right now. So envious and excited
for them. Can’t wait to see photos. Hope they are getting along swimmingly!
